Muscles Pec and Axilla region Flashcards
Deltoid Origin
Lateral third of clavicle, wraps around arcomion to the spine of scapula
Deltoid Insertion
Deltoid tuberosity of humerus
Deltoid Innervation
Axillary nerve
Deltoid Action
1) Clavicular (anterior) part: flexes and medially rotates the arm
2) Acromial (middle) part: abducts the arm (15-90)
3) Spinal (posterior) part: extends and laterally rotates the arm
Deltoid Blood Supply
Deltoid branch of thoracoacromial artery
Pectoralis Major Origin
Clavicular head: medial half of clavicle
Sternocostal head: anterior surface of sternum, superior 6 costal cartilages
Pectoralis Major Insertion
Lateral lip of intertubercular groove of humerus
Pectoralis Major Innervation
Lateral and medial pectoral nerves
Pectoralis Major Action
1) Adducts arm
2) Medially rotation
3) flexion of arm
Pectoralis Major Blood Supply
Pectoral branch of thoracoacromial trunk
Pectoralis Minor Origin
Ribs 3-5 near costal cartilage
Pectoralis Minor Insertion
coracoid process of scapula
Pectoralis Minor Innervation
Medial Pectoral Nerve
Pectoralis Minor Action
1) Stabilize scapula
2) draw scapula anteriorly
3) Elevate ribs
Pectoralis Minor Blood Supply
Pectoral branch of thoracoacromial trunk
Subclavius Origin
Rib 1 close to costal cartilage
Subclavius Insertion
Inferior surface of clavicle (so you can’t see it)
Subclavius Innervation
Subclavius Nerve
Subclavius Action
1) Anchor clavicle
2) Protect deeper neurovascular
3) Prevent dislocation of clavicle
4) Depress clavicle
Subclavius Blood Supply
Clavicular branch of thoracoacromial artery and suprascapular artery
Serratus Anterior Origin
lateral border of ribs 1-8
Serratus Anterior Insertion
medial border of scapula
Serratus Anterior Innervation
Long thoracic nerve
Serratus Anterior Action
1) protracts scapula (give yourself a hug)
2) rotates scapula superiorly
3) stabilize scapula against thoracic wall
Serratus Anterior Blood Supply
Circumflex scapular artery
