Week 12 - NSAID Flashcards
Acetylsalicylic Acid (Aspirin) MOA
inhibits prostaglandin synthesis and has greater anti-inflammatory activity than the NSAIDs. Salicylates lower body temperature through their effect on the hypothalamic thermostat and vasodilation of peripheral vessels, thus enhancing dissipation of heat
Acetylsalicylic Acid (Aspirin) indication
rheumatic fever, RA, transient ischemic attacks (TIAs), coronary artery disease, and deep vein thrombosis, post MI
Acetylsalicylic Acid (Aspirin) SE
-Reye’s syndrome in children/adolescents.
-GI irritation and bleeding (do not take with alcohol or GI irritation).
-Ototoxic, temporary hearing loss and tinnitus, STOP IF OCCURS.
-Prolongs bleeding time
Celecoxib MOA
COX - 2 inhibitor
What is Cox-2
an inducible enzyme that is synthesized mainly in response to pain and inflammation, inhibits this action
Celecoxib indication
Osteoarthritis
RA
Celecoxib SE
Black box warning for CV disease
Non specific Cox inhibitors (I MAN DIK)
