Weber- POLITICS AS A VOCATION Flashcards
What are the 3 forms of legitimate domination?
Traditional domination- based on long-standing practices and customs
Charismatic domination- relies on the personal appeal and extraordinary capabilities of a leader.
Legal-rational domination- derived from established laws and regulations.
How do individuals relate to politics?
Those who live ‘for’ politics are genuinely passionate about their political roles, possibly seeking to serve a greater cause and deriving personal meaning from their engagement.
On the other hand, those who live ‘off’ politics are primarily motivated by economic gain or depend on political roles to secure their livelihood.
What are the roles of Civil servants and politicians?
Officials should focus on impartial administration, executing orders without bias or personal conviction to maintain the integrity of the state mechanism.
In contrast, politicians, particularly leaders, are required to take passionate stances and accept personal responsibility for their actions, thereby engaging in a more dynamic, often contentious political landscape.
What is a demagogue?
A demagogue is a political leader who gains support by appealing to people’s emotions, fears, and prejudices rather than using rational arguments or facts. They often use persuasive speech and charismatic leadership to rally people around their cause, sometimes manipulating public opinion for their own benefit.

-people in politics should seek salary should live for politics should be economically independent and have the time ot spend on politics so people getting money from rent shares journalist with flexible agendas. its normal for everyone to seek a salary for only natural from poor poeple to seek income from politics. only get politicians from upper class (himself) who have the time interest. this is more preferable then people making it their job. both have negative consequences.
