Q

define nation state and nationalism

A
  • a state in which the nation (the inhabitants) are sovereign, they determine the political course and implement it

but this required a lot of pp and so political pp was impossible in communist Poland or spain under franco

thus approach the nation through nationalism, the feeling that you belong to a larger group that sees itself as apolitical actor with a shared language and history

A nation state needs a structure and a collectivity but what this looks likes and what it means is debated.
