what extra step when using syringe do you need to follow

A

follow same prep for evacuated tube just assemble and set out a syringe need and get it ready while alcohol dries
-you’d also get the blood transfer device ready as well as the tubes in the correct order of draw.

A

adjust bevel of needle so you can see graduations of the barrel
** exercise plunger-push it in and out a couple of times

how to insert and use syringe

A

insert with your dominant hand using the same grip as the vacutainer with the bevel up so you can see the graduations
quickly and smoothly insert needle -small amount of blood will appear in hub
pull back smoothly and gently on plunger using your non dominant hand
** once done draw back slightly on plunger to prevent the blood from dripping – then transfer once needle safely disposed

how to handle tubes during transfer

A

maintain order of draw
transfer while vertical but hold the vacutainer
-push tubes onto multi-sampling needle of safety transfer device
-allow tube to fill
-mix tubes
-dispose entire system in sharps
