What- A fort in South Carolina that was under siege from the new Confederate government. Abraham Lincoln tried to send supplies to the fort and the supply ships were attacked which marked the start of the Civil War.
Where- South Carolina
When- 1861
Why- South Carolina was the first state to secede from the Union and Fort Sumter was in South Carolina and was considered federal property it was still part of the Union. The Confederates didn’t like this so they decided to put the fort on siege.

March to the Sea

Who- Sherman
What- Destroyed 60 miles of land in Georgia. He reached Savanah, Georgia, and made the city surrender. he then continued this march to South Carolina, still destroying war supplies and morals.

Why- Sherman believed that War should be costly to the opponent and he did this by destroying all the land and property in the South. The goal of this was to break the will of the Southern people

When- April 9, 1865
Why- The Confederacy had been put in a tough situation where their supplies had been cut off and their armies were being destroyed. Realizing this Lee surrendered.
