Visual Seperation Flashcards
The following visual separations can be used to separate IFR:
3 things
1) VMC Climb/Descent: Pilot’s have to agree to maintain own separation
2) in the vicinity of an AD: under specific conditions
3) When an a/c is executing a visual approach and has preceding traffic in sight
Controllers may authorise an aircraft to climb/descend in VMC provided:
6 things
1) Class D/E Airspace
2) below FL100
3) During Daylight
4) A/C flying VMC
5) climbing/descending a/c agrees to maintain his own separation from other a/c and agreed with pilot of other a/c
6) essential traffic information given
Separation minima may be reduced in vicinity of an AD if:
1) Adequate Separation can be provided by AD controller when each a/c is continuously visible
2) Each a/c is continuously visible to flight crews of the the other a/c and can maintain their own separation
3) One a/c following another, the flight crew of succeeding a/c reports the other in sight and separation maintained
Visual approaches for IFR traffic to execute may be requested by:
The flight crew
The controller (concurrence of the flight crew shall be required)
ATCOs shall exercise caution in initiating a visual approach where there is reason to believe the flight crew concerned is not familiar with the AD and it’s surrounding terrain.
True
ATCOs should take into consideration the prevailing traffic and weather conditions when initiating visual approaches.
True
An IFR flight may be cleared to execute a visual approach provided the pilot can maintain visual reference to terrain and the:
(2 things)
1) Reported ceiling is at or above the approved initial approach level for the a/c so cleared.
Or
2) The pilot reports at the initial approach level or any time during the IAP that met conditions are such that with reasonable assurance a visual approach can be made and landing can be completed.
Separation shall be provided between a/c cleared to execute visual approach and other arriving/departing traffic.
True
For successive visual approaches(radar/non-radar) Separation shall be maintained until the pilot of a succeeding aircraft reports having the preceding a/c in sight.
True
When both a/c are Heavy wake turbulence or preceding a/c is a heavier wake than succeeding and distance between is less than appropriate wake turbulence minimum then….
The controller shall issue a caution of possible wake turbulence. The P.I.C of the a/C concerned shall be responsible for ensuring the spacing. They shall inform ATC if more spacing is required.
