Vein injections Flashcards
what bones are found in the arm?
- clavicle
- humerus
- scapula
what bones are found in the foreman?
- radius
- ulna
what is the cubital fossa?
- Depression on anterior aspect of elbow
- Situated anterior to distal humerus and elbow joint
- Filled with variable amount of fat
- Contains a number of anatomical structures
what is the super boundary of the fossa?
Imaginary line connecting medial and lateral epicondyles
what is the medial boundary of the fossa?
Flexor muscles arising from medial epicondyle (bumps off the humorous)
what is the lateral boundary of the fossa?
Extensor muscles from lateral epicondyle
what is the floor of the fossa?
Brachialis and supinator muscles of arm and forearm
what is the roof of the fossa?
Deep fascia, bicipital aponeurosis, superficial facia, skin
what are the contents of the fossa?
- Terminal brachial artery and commencement of radial and ulnar arteries
- Biceps brachii tendon
- Median nerve
- Radial nerve
what does the brachial artery spilt into once it leaves the cubital fossa?
radial and ulnar arteries
what are the contents found superficially in fascia overlying the fossa?
- Median cubital vein (anterior to brachial artery
- Basilic and cephalic veins
- Medial and lateral cutaneous nerves of forearm
what is the name for the network of veins on the back of the hand?
dorsal venous netwrok
where does the cephalic vein sit in the arm in the anatomical position?
lateral to the basilica vein
Describe the name changes of the basilic vein.
basilic vein dives deep to become the brachial vein which then becomes the axillary vein upon entering the axilla
where does the cephalic vein drain?
into axillary vein after running through the delto-pectoral groove
