UW 4-13-17 Flashcards
What drug can reverse both the CNS and peripheral symptoms of severe atropine toxicity?
Physostigmine; neostigmine and edrophonium are quaternary structures and cannot cross BBB
What part of the CNS does leptin act on?
Arcuate nucleus
What are the actions of leptin?
Decreases NPY (decreasing appetite) and stimulates alpha-MSH (increasing satiety)
What type of response is seen in administration of the liver attenuated oral poliovirus vaccine?
More robust oropharyngeal and intestinal mucosal IgA response
What polio vaccine with produce a stronger mucosal secretory IgA immune response?
Live attenuated oral (Sabin)
What does the 4th aortic arch give rise to?
On left, the aortic arch; on right, proximal R subclavian artery
What does the 6th aortic arch give rise to?
Proximal pulmonary arteries; on left gives rise to ductus arteriosus
What is the vascular derivative of the first aortic arch?
Maxillary artery
What aortic arch does the common carotid artery come from?
Third
What aortic arch does the hyoid artery arise from?
Second
What vascular derivatives does the second aortic arch give rise to?
Stapedial artery; hyoid artery
What is the role of ATP in skeletal and cardiac muscle contraction?
Release myosin head from its actin binding site; energize conformational change that resets the myosin head to contract again the next time it binds to actin
What do the trocar and cannula pierce in a suprapubic cystostomy?
Layers of abdominal wall but will not enter the peritoneum (bladder is extraperitoneal)
