A
Involuntary leakage of urine on effort or exertion, or on sneezing or coughing.

What are the causes of stress inontinence?
A
- Pregnancy, vaginal delivery, instrumental delivery, tears.
- Obesity, increasing age
- Previous hysterectomy

How is stress incontinence investigated?
A
- Abdominal exam, speculum, bimanual examination
- Urine dipstick to exclude UTI
- Urodynamic cytometry to exclude overactive bladder if surgery is considered.

How is stress incontinence managed?
A
- Lose weight, optimise diabetes, bladder diary
- Address causes of chronic cough/constipation
- Reduce excessive fluid intake
- Pelvic floor muscle training for 3 months
- Surgery if other methods have failed - mid urethral sling
