- Inhibits ovulation

What is the regime for implant contraception?
A
- 4cm flexible rod containing progestogen inserted in upper arm sub-dermally with local anaesthetic.
- Insert on day 1-5 of cycle (immediately effective)
- If inserted on other days, use condom for 7 days
- Lasts 3 years

What are the disadvantages of implant contraception?
A
- Irregular bleeding in first year
- Can get infrequency bleeding or heavy bleeding
- Efficacy reduced with hepatic enzyme-inducing drugs
