What is the regime for implant contraception?

A
  1. 4cm flexible rod containing progestogen inserted in upper arm sub-dermally with local anaesthetic.
  2. Insert on day 1-5 of cycle (immediately effective)
  3. If inserted on other days, use condom for 7 days
  4. Lasts 3 years

What are the disadvantages of implant contraception?

  1. Irregular bleeding in first year
  2. Can get infrequency bleeding or heavy bleeding
  3. Efficacy reduced with hepatic enzyme-inducing drugs
