What are the causes of intermenstrual bleeding?
A
- Cervical polyps/ectropion/carcinoma/infection/trauma
- Vaginal atrophy/malignancy/trauma
- Hormonal contraception (spotting)
- STI

How is intermenstrual bleeding investigated?
A
- FBC
- Cervical smear
- Swab for infection
- USS for >35 years/younger if medical treatment fails
- Endometrial biopsy if USS shows thickening/polyp

What is the management for intermenstrual bleeding?
A
- IUS/COCP induce lighter periods
- Surgery for anatomical causes
- Treat Chlamydia if appropriate
