What should you ask in a history of chronic pelvic pain?
A
- SOCRATES
- Associated with periods or sex?
- LMP, cycle length, HMB/IMB/PCB
- Superficial or deep dyspareunia
- How long have you been with current partner?
- Discharge? Previous STI? Condom use?
- Current contraception?
- Obstetric history

What are the causes of chronic pelvic pain?
A
- Endometriosis - cyclical, non-heavy bleeding pain
- Adenomyosis - cyclical pain, HMB
- Fibroids - non-cyclical pain, HMB
- IUD
- PID
- Ovarian cysts/mass
- Cystitis
- IBS/IBD/constipation
- Depression, sleep disorders

What is the management for chronic pelvic pain?
A
- Cyclical - try COCP/GnRH
- Exclude PID
- IBS - anti-spasmodic
- Pain management
- Diet, exercise, relaxation techniques
- Amitriptyline/gabapentin may be useful
