How to care for scalp injury?
clean with soap, remove debris, apply pressure, wounds larger than 1/2 inch should be referred, small wounds should be covered
What are the signs of a concussion?
headache, sensitivity to light, amnesia, blurred vision
On average how long should someone be out with a possible concussion?
7 consecutive days of no symptoms in order to cleared for Grade 1
Grade 2 is 14 days
What is a Mandible fracture? What are the signs?
fracture to jaw
deformity, pain with biting, lower lip anesthesia
How to care for mandible fracture?
temp immobilization with elastic wrap followed by reduction and fixation
How to deal with facial lacerations?
Apply pressure, referral for stitches
How to deal with nasal fracture?
control bleeding, x-ray, splinting
Cause of nosebleed (epistaxis)
direct blow, sinus infection, high humidity, allergies, serious facial injury
How to deal with nosebleed?
sit upright, cold compress, pressure below the nose,
if bleeding doesn’t stop after 5 minutes, plug with gauze
