What are the two types of bleeds for external wounds?
Arterial bleed (higher oxygen, bright) - arteries
Venous (less oxygen, dark) - veins
Internal Bleeding Signs/Symptoms
need a mechanism: where they got hit is a good indication
soft tissue will become tender or hard
rapid, weak pulse
shock
vomiting blood
What is Subdural Hematoma
life-threatening internal bleeding
Internal Bleeding: Things to look for
Heart rate, respiration, blood pressure
What are to methods to control bleeding?
direct pressure - slow bleeding with gloves, gauze, and pressure, add more and more gauze
elevation - elevate above the level of the heart
Control bleeding if two other methods fail
Arterial pressure Pressure point - compress artery
Upper body - brachial artery
Lower body - femoral artery

How to deal with burns?
Call 911 if serious
Stop the burning
Cool with large amounts of water
1st degree burn
sun burn damaging outer layer of skin
home remedy treatment
2nd degree burn
blistering, swelling of burn, nerves exposed
go see physician
3rd degree burn
penetrates through skin, muscle, and fat
skin especially waxed and charred
nerves are destroyed
Care for thermal burns
dont remove burnt and sticking clothing
dont pop blisters or use home remedies
Special situation burns
Chemical burns - cleaning solutions’
avoid skin, flush burn with water, if powder wipe off, remove contaminated clothing
Electrical Burn
call 911, dealing often with unconscious person
How to deal with seizures
dont try to stop them, remove objects, protect head, call 911
What is a stroke? How do you recognize?
caused when blood flow to part of the brain is cut off, brain damage
