What are the moves of the Biceps
Biceps brachii is prime mover (brachialis and brachioradialis are synergists)
You can target the Brachioradialis with hammer curls
What causes a clavicle fracture?
What are the signs?
- fall on outstretched arm (most often occurs with younger)
2. clavicle is lower, palpation reveals pain, deformity, and swelling
How to care for a clavicle fracture?
sling and immobilize for 6-8 weeks, sling for 3-4 weeks after brace
What causes fractures of the Humerus?
What are the signs?
How to care for?
- direct blow or fall on outstretched arm
- pain, swelling, decreased ROM, x-ray for detection
- immediate splint, treat for shock and refer, athlete will be out for 2-6 months
What causes a Sternoclavicular sprain?
What are the signs?
How to care for?
- indirect force and blunt trauma
- Grade 1-3
- PRICE, immobilize for 3-5 weeks
What causes a Acromioclavicular (AC) sprain?
What are the signs?
- direct blow, upward force from humerus, fall on outstretched arm
How to care for AC joint sprain?
ice, stabilize, referral
Grade 1-3
Aggressive rehab to keep mobile and strong
What is the main point of the rotator cuffs?
maintenance of the humerus and raising things overhead
