factors affecting conformity

group size
conformity increased as group size increased up to 4 people
unanimity
when group agreed, conformity increased. when 1 other person disagrees, conformity of participant decreased by 80%
deindividualization
demonstrated when individuals were not identified, conformity decreased.
normative influence
seek acceptance and approval from others.
informational influence
when we don’t have same ability as others, we look to see how they behave so we produce correct response
culture
individualist culture values have lower conformity whereas collectivist has high conformity.
social lofing
when individuals work in groups and take different roles. there is a tendency to reduce efforts because of belief others in group will do it.
