long term memory
relatively permanent, storehouse of encoded information and has unlimited capacity
declarative memory
Long term memory of facts and personal events. hippocampus is essential for declarative consolidation
Explicit memory
memory that can be retrieved and brought into conscious memory
Subset of declarative memory (semantic memory)
memory of facts and concepts
subset (episodic memory)
memory of personal experiences
Procedural memory
implicit memory of how to do things. memory does not need to be consciously retrieved to be articulated
difference between explicit and implicit
explicit is consciously brought into mind implicit is not. explicit is declarative, implicit is procedural
