-Catherine of Aragon was the daughter of Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella I of Castile, making her a Spanish princess.
-She was Henry’s first wife and married him in 1509.
Divorced: why?
-She could not produce a male heir and failed to meet Henry’s desire for a son.
-Henry was also in love with Anne Boleyn which is why he wanted to divorce Catherine.
Outcome:
- Caused Henry to break away from the Catholic Church and form the Church of England. (Because Pope Clement VII refused to annul the marriage,)
-In 1533, Henry’s marriage to Catherine was annulled by Archbishop Cranmer, and Catherine was sent away from court.
-She remained loyal to her daughter, Mary, until her death in 1536.
The Pope refused to annul their marriage, leading to Henry’s break with the Catholic Church.

Jane Seymour. Died: Jane died shortly after giving birth to Henry’s long-desired son, Edward VI, in 1537. (However Edward did not live very long and was outlasted by his father)
