Unit 1 Flashcards
What are the names of the two nervous systems?
Central Nervous System (CNS) and Peripheral Nervous System (PNS)
What does CNS stand for?
Central Nervous System
What does PNS stand for?
Peripheral Nervous System
Where is the peripheral nervous system and what makes up the peripheral nervous system?
PNS is outside of the brain and spinal cord. It is made up of the Cranial Nerves and Spinal Nerves. It is made up of all the nerves that reach every part of the body. (limbs, organs, and other structures)
Where is the central nervous system and what makes up the central nervous system?
The central nervous system is made up of the Brain and Spinal Cord
How many main sections are there of the brain and what are they?
3, Cerebrum, Cerebellum, Brain Stem
How many parts are there of the cerebrum? What are they?
4, Frontal Lobe, Occipital Lobe, Temporal Lobe, Parietal Lobe
What are the functions of the central nervous system?
Integrative Function - Processing sensory information
What are the functions of the peripheral nervous system?
Sensory Function - input information direct contact with the outside world, retrieving information from all five senses
Motor Function - output information muscle contraction and body movement
Where is the Cerebrum and what is it responsible for?
Sits at the front of the brain. Higher level nervous system functions, including memory, emotion, problem solving and reasoning, and movement, ect.
