Q

What is maximal strength and what is an example

A

Maximal strength is maximum force exerted in a single contraction.
E.g deadlift in weightlifting

Q

What is static strength and an example

A

Static strength is force plied with no movement

E.g ), crucifix on rings in gymnastics

Q

What is elastic/explosive strength and example

A

Elastic/explosive strength is ability to expend a maximal amount of force in one or a series of rapid muscular contractions .
E.g 200m race

Q

What is strength endurance and example

A

Strength endurance is ability to sustain repeated muscle contractions over time. Same muscle contraction over and over)
E.g 200m swimmer, marathon runner,

Q

What is dynamic strength and example

A

Dynamic strength is force applied with change in muscle length (isotonic). (Repeated)
E.g games players (handball), 200m sprinter, throwing a javelin

Q

How does gender affect strength and why

A

Gender affects strength because males tend to be stronger because males have higher muscle mass and cross-sectional area due to higher testosterone levels.

Q

How does age affect strength

A

Age affects strength because men reach peak strength 18-30 then muscle mass declines due to less testosterone, elasticity and decrease ion efficiency of neuromuscular system
Females reach peak 16-25

Q

Compare explosive strength and strength endurance

A

Explosive strength has fast speed of contraction whereas strength endurance has slow speed of contraction
Explosive strength is maximal force whereas strength endurance is submaximal
Explosive, springting, strength endurance, swimming

Q

How does cross sectional area affect strength and why

A

Cross sectional area affects strength because greater cross sectional area of muscle, greater strength.
This is because there is 16-30N of force per square ck of muscle cross section, due to it being full of ATP, PC etc

Q

How does fibre type affect strength and why

A

Fibre type affects strength because greater FG and Zfog Fibres, greater strength.
This is because FG fibres have large motor neurone forming large motor units with high force contractions
