Other Flashcards
How is SALTAPS applied to broken ankle
SALTAPS is applied by:
Stop- referee blows whistle to halt training session
Ask- first wider will ask pain in scale 1-10 and where pain is
Look - observe injured area for signs of bleeding, bruising, swelling
Touch - gently apply pressure to ankle, foot and lower leg to identify specific area of injury
Active movement- ask injured person to plantar/Dorsi flex move foot
Passive movement- gently move ankle through full range of motion put 1 hand on foot and other on ankle
Strength- ask them to push your hand with their foot
What is PRICE a
Protect injury from further damage e.g don’t attempt to run injury off
Rest injury to allow sufficient time to recover
Ice ice painful area with concentrations or compress e.g bag of frozen peas. Reduce swelling. Don’t apply ice directly to skin
Compress injured area with elastic bandage to help reduce blood flow. Don’t leave on while sleep
Elevate injury to reduce blood flow
What are meals just before performance
Meals just before performance should be:
1h before event high GI
E.g bagel
No glucose immediately before event
What should post event food be
Post event food should be:
High carb meal to maximise glycogen replenishment every 2H for 6h
What should pre event meals be
Pre event meals should be:
High in carbs, low GI
E.g porridge
To maximise glycogen
What is direct gas analysis
Direct gas analysis is when:
Subject performs continuous exercise at progressive instensities until exhaustion
Expired air is captured by mask
Relative concentrations of 02 and C02 in expired air to inspired air are measured.
Results can be graphed and V02 max can be determined
What are adv of direct gas analysis
Adv of direct gas analysis are:
Objective measurement of V02 max
Valid and reliable measure
Can be performed doing different exercises e.g running, cycling
What are dis adv of direct gas analysis
Dis adv of direct gas analysis are:
Maximal test to exhausion
Can’t be used with elderly
Requires specialist equipment
What is CHD
CHD is reduction in blood flow and 02 supply which limits cardiac muscle’s ability to respire
What is effect of training on CHD
Effect of training on CHD are
Reduce level of blood lipids, slowing development of atherosclerosis
Decrease blood viscosity, help reduce blood pressure
Cardiac hypertrophy, increase stroke volume and reduce blood pressure
Decrease body fat, reduce strain on heart
