Types Of Joints Flashcards
1
Q
Pivot joints
A
Allow bones to rotate. One bone shaped like a cylinder rotates inside another bone or ligament that make a ring around it. You have 3 pivot joints: wrist, elbow and neck
2
Q
Hinge joints
A
A joint that allows only backward and forward motion just like a hinge on door. There are 3 hinge joints: Knee, elbow and ankle
3
Q
Ball and socket joints
A
The rounded head of a long bone (the ball) fits into a cup-shaped hole (socket). Both the hip and shoulder joints are ball and socket joints.
4
Q
Condyloid
A
Similar to ball and socket, but the ball rests against the end of the bone, rather than inside. This allows circular motion. E.g wrist.
