How does gender influence sports?

A

Some activities still offer one sex more opportunities than the other. We also see it in the way that most sports are still organised on gender lines e.g men events and woman events in athletics.

A

A boy who would like to play a sport like netball may struggle to find a team. Like a women trying to play cricket or rugby.

How does age influence sports?

A

Age can affect performance as well as participation. Some sports which need good flexibility, strength etc may be more suitable for younger people. Where as patience/tactics may be better for older people.

A

It groups people based off of family, wages and skills. This means some sports are grouped into upper-class, working class sports based off of who plays them.

If someone who does not have a lot of money has to buy a membership etc they are restricted to if they can play.

A

It refers to cultural, linguistic or religious traits. It can influence whether we play sport as well as what we play and succeed in.

A

Racism against non-white players. There are still far fewer black managers at the top level of sport.

A

Means making something available on the market or using something to make a profit.

A

Advertising boards. Sponsors names of shirts, competitions and venues named after companies.

Advantage and disadvantage of endorsements?

A

If suitable it can help the club grow and invest more in kits, equipment and facilities. If a negative endorsement it can lead to influencing negatives on the public.

A

Provides funds for people/groups.
Bring sports to a wider audience.
May encourage people to play the sports.

Disadvantage of commercialisation?

A

Seat prices made too expensive for people.
Audience find enjoyment of sport spoiled. E.g through adverts.
The sponsors may demand things done in a certain way- could clash with individuals ideals.

What is deviance?

A

Behaviour that falls outside the norms or what is thought to be acceptable; goes against moral values or sports laws.

A

Deviance that has a detrimental effect.

A

Deviance where there is no intention to cause harm or break rules.

A

Qualities of fairness, following the rules, being gracious in defeat or victory.

A

Bending rules of sports without actually breaking them.

A

In tennis claiming your opponent’s shot was out when you know it was in.

A
