Gluttius maximus
Function- Adduct and extend the leg at the hips, pull the leg backward.
Hamstring
Function- Flex the legs at the knee
Location- At the top of each leg at the back
Gastrocnemius
Function- Point the toes at the ankle
Location- At the bottom of each leg at the back. AKA:calf
Latissimus Dorsi
Function- Pull your arms down at the shoulders and behind your back (adduct and extend)
Triceps
Location- At the top of each arm at the back
Function- Extend the arm at the elbow
Deltoid
Function- Raise the arms in all directions at the shoulders
Location- In the upper part of the body, covering the shoulders
Biceps
Function- Flex the arm at the elbows
Location- At the top of each arm at the front
Quadriceps
Function- Extend the leg at the knee
Location- At the top of each leg at the front
Pectoralis major
Function- Adduct the arm at the shoulder
Location- Upper part of the chest at the front
External obliques
Function- Pull the chest downward. Flex and rotate the spinal column.
Location- To the side of the abdomen.
Tibialis anterior
Function- Pull the toes up towards the shin (dorsi-flexion)
Location- Runs down the shin.
Hip flexor
Function- Flex the hip, help the leg and knee up towards the body.
Location- Sit deep in the front of the hip and connect the leg.
What are cardiac muscles
- Involuntarily controlled
- Found in the walls of the heart
- Don’t fatigue
What are smooth muscles?
- Involuntarily controlled
- Found in the walls of hollow organs such as intestines
Skeletal muscles
- Voluntarily controlled
- Found throughout the body
- Attached to bones by tendons
