What is a functional disorder?
A functional disorder produces symptoms for which no physiological or anatomical cause can be identified.
Ex: a panic attack is a functional disorder
What is an iatrogenic illness?
An iatrogenic illness is an unfavorable response due to a prescribed medical treatment
Ex: severe burns, resulting from radiation therapy are iatrogenic.
What is an idiopathic disorder?
An idiopathic disorder is an illness without known cause (idi/o means peculiar to the individual, path means disease, and -ic means pertaining to).

What is an infectious disease?
An infectious disease is an illness caused by living pathogenic organisms such as bacteria and viruses.
What is a nosocomial infection?
A nosocomial infection is a disease acquired in a hospital or clinical setting.
Ex: multi drug resistant, staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections are often spread in hospitals
Nosocomial comes from the Greek word hospital
What is an organic disorder?
An organic disorder produces symptoms caused by detectable physical changes in the body.
Ex: chickenpox, which has a characteristic rash, is an organic disorder caused by a virus.
