-Autoimmune disease that causes destruction of pancreatic beta cells resulting in beta cell deficiency and high blood glucose

- weight loss

-diabetic ketoacidosis
macrovascular complications= heart disease and stroke
microvascular complications= retinopathy, neuropathy and nephropathy
