Topic on a page - EPOC Flashcards
what does EPOC stand for
excess post-exercise oxygen consumption
what is EPOC
EPOC is the additional amount of oxygen consumed after anaerobic exercise. Sometimes EPOC is referred to as oxygen debt
what does EPOC do
refers to the amount of oxygen needed to recover after exercise
enables lactic acid to be converted to glucose, carbon dioxide and water
explains why we breathe deeply and quickly after vigorous exercise
what does EPOC enable
enables lactic acid to be converted to glucose, carbon dioxide and water
what is the space above an EPOC graph curve until its peak
O2 deficit
what is the space under an EPOC graph curve until its peak
O2 consumed during exercise
what is the curve on an EPOC graph after its peak
EPOC
what is the base line on an EPOC graph where it starts
resting requirements
what it the peak on an EPOC graph before in decreases
where exercise stops
what is resting requirement
the resting requirement identifies how much oxygen is required at rest
explain the EPOC graph / EPOC
-the resting requirement identifies how much oxygen is required at rest
-when we start to exercise the demand for oxygen increases. it takes time to get the oxygen to the working muscles, not all the oxygen can be provided (anaerobic) we get an O2 deficit
- when we stop exercising the demand for oxygen remains higher to pay back the deficit - this is EPOC
