What are stomata’s?
Tiny holes in the leaves of plants
What passes through the stomata?
Gases which diffuse into and out of leaves
What controls the size of the stomata?
Guard cells
Where are the guard cells found?
Around the stomata cells
How is water absorbed from the soil?
By the roots
How does the water from the roots get to the leaves?
It passes through the plant
Where in the leaves does the water evaporate to?
Into the air spaces between them
What happens to the water that evaporates?
It diffuses out of the plant through the stomata on the leaf surface when the stomata’s are open
What is transpiration?
The loss of water vapour from the leaves of plants through the stomata when they are open to allow gas exchange for photosynthesis
What can the guard cells do to the stomata cells?
Close them to prevent excess water loss
