A

17
Q

What can the products of digestion be used for

A

Used to make new carbohydrates, proteins and lipids.
Some of the glucose made is used in respiration

18
Q

What does bile do

A

Neutralises the stomach acid
Emulsifies fats

19
Q

Where is bile produced

A

Liver and is stored in the gall bladder before it is released into the small intestine

20
Q

How does bile neutralise stomach acid

A

Hydrochloric acid makes the pH too acidic .
Bile is alkaline and neutralises the acid to make conditions alkaline and the enzymes in the small intestine work best in alkaline conditions

21
Q

What does emulsifies fats mean

A

Breaks fat into tiny droplets and gives them a much bigger surface area for lipase to work on
Which makes digestion faster
