TMAAT Flashcards

Q

Generic - TMAAT you had a conflict with a superior/capt

A

Situation: I was a Capt/Fo …………. Doing multiple sectors with quick turn abounds.

Action/Fact: what was the main issue, be direct and use WWYD method. The captain made the felt very uncomfortable for me by engaging in conversation.

Solve it:

Calm: I didn’t let his behavior affect my performance but it was uncomfortable and I thought maybe something was wrong.

Safety: The captain was following the SOPs and the Company procedures and at no time was safety every in doubt. So I decide to talk with him at the end of the day.

Debrief: I told him thanks for the flight and I look forward to flying with him again. Than, I asked him if everything was ok? He didn’t respond to my question. So I told him capt please take my number and let me know if there is anything I can do to help. He relaxed a bit and than apologized that he didn’t feel very chatty. He had some personal issues that he needed to deal with and told me next time he would leave his personal issues at home.

Follow up: I spoke with him a few days later and things at home had settled down and he engaged more during our following flights.

Reaction/lesson learned: Even though we appeared to have a conflict I was able to continue to perform my duties and at the appropriate time I was able check on my coworker. It was a comfort to him and helped him to relax just knowing that he had someone he could reach out to. It was reinforced that with effective communication and strong interposal skills we can maintain safety as our priority and improve the overall team by helping a coworker.

A

Situation: I was a Capt/Fo …………. Flying from DOH to MCT on a night flight

Action/Fact :what was the main issue, be direct and use WWYD method. Muscat airport was closed when we were being vectored for approach

Solve it:

Announce/Aviate/Nav/Comm/Memory Items/NNC/NC
Fact: Airport was closed
Options: Airports ALN, SOHAR, DXB
Risk/benefits: Fuel/Time, Weather, Notams, Approach in use, Performance

We checked the FMC to confirm how much holding time we had against what we calculated based on our bingo fuel
Before departing we checked the weather and notams I called on box 2 to inform dispatch we were holding and our current fuel. We requested suitable alternates and notams
Action I will Take:

Decision: I asked the first officer if he had any inputs. He thought the airport would open soon and wanted to wait until BINGO fuel to divert. I agreed with him.

Execute:
VHF 1: Inform ATC how long we could hold and what was the plan
VHF 2: Dispatch how long we could hold and what was the plan
VHF3: SFS how long we could hold and what was the plan
PA to PAX how long we could hold and what was the plan
The Airport remained closed at our Bingo fuel + 10 min we diverted

Execute:
VHF 1: Inform ATC we need to divert
VHF 2: Dispatch we were diverting
VHF3: SFS we were diverting
PA to PAX

Follow up: We landed in ALN. I asked the FO to prepare the cockpit. I stood in the cabin and made a PA to the pax. I discussed with my SFS and crew on the best to care for the PAX during the diversion and I coordinated with our dispatch to get new paperwork.
