Q

How will you handle transitioning back to FO

A
  • I wont have any issues transitioning to being an FO. I believe having the experience, as a captain will help me be a better FO. I now know what it was like to be a captain and I can better advise and assist the captain throughout the operation. For me its not about being in charge but doing the best job I can as an FO to help operate safely, efficiently and on time.
  • Letting the captain go thru there mental checklist unless I feel safety is a concern and when prompted give the best advise I can knowing the captain is looking at the big picture.

Q

How did you prepare for today

A

First I had to get out of Oman! I researched Atlas online after talking with Ben and Karoll. I watched the video presentation during the FAPA virtual job fair. I took a look and compared the 737 to the 767 and 747 to look for similarities and differences. I did research on crossing the North Atlantic and pacific. As I operated under different rules at Oman Air I opened up the FAR/AIM and refreshed myself on FAA flight and duty time limitations, weather and fuel requirements. After receiving the study outline from Katlyn I also reviewed the material.

Q

Any Regrets

A

Regret failing my Multi – but I passed the lessoned learned onto my students and fellow aviators of being knowledgeable, assertive, staying calm under pressure by using communication (speaking mental checklist out loud), delegation. With perseverance we can turn a negative into a positive. In turn my students in light aircraft and during IOE have never had a failure and in return I received my gold seal certificate.

Q

What is your weakness?

A

Diversity

growing up in California I thought I had came from a diverse background. When I moved to Oman and started working with people all around the world I realized I had a lot to learn. We started spending time together, eating together and becoming friends with people from all around the world. We got to learn about each other’s cultures while learning about the local culture.

Diversity has allowed me to easily build rapport with my fellow crew and better understand people from different cultures.

49
Q

Any failed checkrides?

A

I learned the importance of relaying on your training, being knowledgeable, using mental checklist/pneumonics and staying calm under pressure. After this I applied the lessons learned and never failed again. I also shared with my students, 100% and IOE.

50
Q

If you could go back and do it all over again would you change anything about your career?

A

No. I have had the opportunity to gain 121 experiences in North America and international experience on the EMB 170, B737NG and MAX. I’m proud of my training record, I always study with my coworkers and come prepared. I did fail my Private Pilot Mulit add on but I learned from it and took what I learned and emphasized when I was a CFI. All of my students passed on there first attempt and I became a gold seal inst.

51
Q

What do you think will be your greatest challenge in your first year here?
What do you think the hardest thing will be for you if you get hired by _____________?

A

Adjusting to the Time Zones but I know by adjusting my eating times, eating right and exercising I can adapt easier.

I’m used to doing up to 11 long night flights, leaving at midnight and coming back at 2pm. I wake up early, eat healthy and exercise. I eat a late lunch around 3-4pm and than sleep until 10pm. I wake up and prepare for my flight by logging onto SITA and getting the route, weather, and notams.

When I fly from DXB to SFO or SFO to DXB I have a snack, exercise and eat dinner at the local time. I keep myself awake until 10pm and than pass out.

52
Q

Tell me about a time you did something wrong at your airline?

A

New captain on b737 in ISB I required 10 tons of fuel and I accidently told the fueler 11 tons. After we started refueling I was helping set up the FMC when I realized the mistake I made. I informed the fueler before reaching 10 tons. I learned my lesson and than after this I always handed over the fuel slip to the fuler.

56
Q

Selling point of charters/operations is the flexibility and anything I can do to help keep customers coming back

I will have the opportunity to see lots of new places
I have been in aviation since 2003 and being flexible is apart of the job. We must be flexible to be successful. My family is are very understanding. We know the days I work and the days I’m off. We always celebrate holidays and birthdays around the days I’m off.

71
Q

What would be some challenges of flying with a new captain?

A

I don’t think it will be a challenge. He or she was an experienced FO before being trained and released by the training department. A new captain will set the pace, which might be slower than a more experienced captain, but I will follow the captains pace and offer my full support. He was highly experienced FO before and has gone thru all the training to become a captain.

I remember when I was a new captain I would go slow on purpose because I was double checking everything.

72
Q

A

The Main Goal, safety operating as a team

  • I’m not feeling comfortable because I understand it
  • Actions I will take

Q

Was there anything new in the Presentation?

A

I really enjoyed how in-depth the presentation was. Everyone has gone out of there way to show me what to expect at Atlas and I appreciate that. I had a chance to watch the presentation once before during the online FAPA job fair. Katlyn, Ben, Karol and juilan have gone out of her way to answer any questions.

When Kyle and Kenra gave the presentation I learned:
DHL owns 51% of Polar
DHL has a huge hub in CVG and Amazon is building a huge hub in CVG
53 – 747s, 111 aircraft in total
3 types of Reserve: Home, Hotel, and airport
The pay: highest of the guarantee of 62 hours, trip rig /4.85 or actual flight time
Per diem is currently 4/hr to revert to 2.40/hr

108
Q

Would you prefer Atlas or Southern, which aircraft and why?

A

If I had the choice I would love the opportunity to fly the 747 or 767 at Atlas. I’m not biased and would be happy to be based in CVG and fly the 737. I will be here for the long haul so If I’m on the 737 I know I will eventually make it to the wide bodies.

109
Q

Are you ready for this challenge? How will you set yourself up to succeed at Atlas?

A

For Training: I read and come prepared to class with any questions and make note cards: Ops manual, Limitations, memory items, flows, systems/MEL/QRH. From the beginning I’m studying my memory items, flows, and limitations as I know Sim time is limited and costly

Line Flying: I’m familiar with a busy schedule doing up to 11 night flights per month. I have a very helpful wife who helps as much as she can. I adapt myself to the new schedule by eating on my new time, eating healthy, and exercising.
