tissue integrity part one Flashcards
how long does it take for Acute inflammation to heal
healing in 2-3 weeks
What is Acute inflammation
neutrophils predominant cell type at site
Subacute inflammation
same features as acute, however last longer
Chronic inflammation
injurious agent persists or repeats injury to that site, may result from changes in the immune system
What cell types for chronic inflammation
lymphocytes and macrophages
How long does chronic inflammation last for
lasts for years
Observation/Recognition
▪ Classic manifestations of inflammation may be masked for immunosuppressed
patient, the early symptoms may be general malaise.
Vital signs
▪ Important to note, especially if the infection is present. Temperature, pulse and
respiration rates may increase.
Fever management
▪ Antipyretics may not be necessary, as mild-moderate fever usually does little harm. However, very young or very old, uncomfortable, or those with significant medical problems may benefit.
▪ Fever greater than 104 ̊F can be damaging to body cells. Intervention is necessary.
Initial phase ( primary intention)
3-5 days, acute inflammatory response
Granulation phase (primary intention)
Fibroblasts secrete collagen, wound pink and vascular, risk for dehiscence, resistant to infection
Maturation Phase (primary intention)
7 days after injury, continues for months/years, fibroblasts disappear, the wound becomes stronger, mature scar forms
why would you have to use secondary intention
something happened to prevent primary intention
Tertiary Intention
Lasts the longest
4 factors influencing wound healing
Nutrition, tissue perfusion, infection, age
