What happens in the first stage?
Learn about their environment and develop early schemas by using their senses.
What happens in the second stage?
Begin to control their environment by using symbolic behaviour but can’t yet think logically.
What happens in the third stage?
Use practical resources to help understand the world. They classify, categorise and use logic to understand the world.
What happens in the fourth stage?

Name criticisms of Piaget’s theory.
Some people believe he underestimated children’s development and with support they can move more quickly through the stages.
