What are gross motor skills?
Allow control of the large muscles in their torso, arms, legs, hands and feet.
How do infants develop their gross motor skills( order)?
from their head down

gradually control muscles in their neck and back, meaning they can roll, sit and crawl

the muscles in their legs develop meaning the can stand, cruise and walk
At 2 years, what can they do(gross motor skills and infancy)?
climb onto low furniture and propel a sit-on toy and can kick a ball
What are fine motor skills important for?
controlling and coordinating the movement of the small muscles in the fingers and hands
What is a newborn able to achieve as of fine motor skills?
Grasp an adult’s finger
What is a 3 month year old able to achieve as of fine motor skills?
hold a rattle for a short time
What is a 6 month year old able to achieve as of fine motor skills?
grasp a toy and pass to another hand
What is a 12 month year old able to achieve as of fine motor skills?
pick up small objects using pincer movement/grasp
What is a 18 month year old able to achieve as of fine motor skills?
build with small blocks, use a spoon and make marks with crayons

pull on shoes and control crayons
