What is a life event ?
A life event is a major event that affects someone life.

Are going to happen to most people and can be anticipated and prepared for
What effect does predictable life events have?
Usually have a positive one but may still cause anxiety
What are unpredictable life events?
life events that are not expected and happen with little or no warning.
What effect does unpredictable life events have?
Can have a negative effect and can be very stressful

What was the Holmes-Rahe social adjustment rating scale based on?
Holmes and Rahe believed that there was a correlation between psychological illness and stressful events.
What happened in the study- step by step?(Holmes-Rahe social adjustment rating scale )
Holmes and Rahe wrote out 43 life events that individuals may experience. They applied a score/ unit to each life event depending on the stress it may cause. Patients would indicate whether they had been through any of these events. Patients would then add up the score from the life event.

They found a correlation between the score and their illness.
