Define Consumer Protection Law
Designed to ensure that the consumers are treated fairly by the business from which they buy

Sales of Goods Act (1893) and Trade Descriptions Act (1968)
Define Sales of Goods Act (1893)
Goods must be fit for the purpose for which they were sold
What are the three expectations of the Sales of Goods Act?
Product must match description, Be of merchantable quality, Must be fit for purpose
Define Trade Descriptions Act (1968)
Forces companies to ensure that every claim and statement about a product is true
Define Employment Law
Protects the rights of employees at work
What are three examples of employment law?
Right to minimum wage and living wage, Right to written employment contract, Right to redundancy pay
Define Environmental Protection Laws
Govern the impact that businesses have on the environment e.g. emissions
What are three of the key areas of environmental protection law?
Emissions in the air, Noise pollution, Storage and handling of hazardous substances
Define Competition Policy
Regulates the competitive environment in which firms operate in order to enhance the overall performance of the economy

Investigating takeovers and mergers, Investigating possible anti-competitive practices

Competition and Markets Authority
Define Health and Safety Legislation
Designed to ensure the safety of employees and customers within the workforce
What is the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974)?
Places the major burden on employers, Employers have to provide a safe working environment for their staff
