Define Design
Finding the right balance between creating a product or service that people desire to have, that they can afford to buy and that works reliably
What are the three aspects of the Design Brief?
Aesthetics, Function, Economic manufacture
Define Aesthetics
The look, feel, smell or taste - the appeal to the senses
Define Function
Does it work? Is it reliable, strong, light enough for the customers purpose
Define Economic Manufacture
Is the design simple enough to be made quickly and efficiently and therefore relatively cheaply?
Does design add value?
Good design can turn cheap-to-produce materials into high quality products that command high price
What are four things design can do?
Enhance the product a business sells, Improve the way the business operates, Help cut production costs, Make processes more efficient and environmentally friendly
Define Sustainability
Means that the purchase you make will not affect the long-term supplies of the product
Define Computer Aided Design (CAD)
Software which enables the designer to work out the wastage implications of the manufacturing process
Define Waste Minimisation
Keeps production costs down which is vital to a business and also helps to reduce the environmental footprint of the business
What are three ways waste materials can be disposed of?
Burn them, Bury them, Reuse them

Taking moral values into consideration
