A

Geiger 1996- fathers play interactions are more exciting and pleasurable than the mothers while mothers are more affectionate. Fathers considered playmates and mothers are known to recognise and respond to their child’s needs

Bernier and Milijkovitch 2009 found that single parent fathers’ attachments with 4-6 year olds were similar to those they had with their parents. Not the same pattern with married fathers. Suggests a sense of continuity.

A

Brown et al 2010 assessed the attachment patterns in 68 families with infants 12-13 months finding that high level of supportive co-parenting were related to secure attachments between fathers and infants but not mother and infant. Co-parenting more important for fathers

A

Secure attachments with fathers= children have better relations with peers, less behavioural problems and are more able to regulate their emotions
Children without fathers more likely to do good at school- take more risks and are more aggressive
