Q

what happens in the ovary during follicular phase
what anterior pituitary hormone is important in this phase

Q

what happens in the ovary during luteal phase
what anterior pituitary hormone is important in this phase

A

mature follicle releases secondary oocyte and corpus lutem develops
the corpus lutem secrets progesterone and oestrogen
corpus luteum degenerates if no fertilisation occurs

Q

discribe the events that happen in endometrium during the follicular and luteal phase

A

menses happens for the first 5 days when the endometrium sloghs off then the proliferative phase starts and lasts between days 5-14 where oestrogen causes the endometrium lining to thicken
the secretory phase then occurs during days 14-28 where progesterion increases blood supply and secretory vesicles

Q

how do oral conceptions prevent ovulation

A

oral contraceptions are synthetic estrogen-like and progesterone-like steroids
they inhibit gonadotropin releasing hormone and therefore LH +FSH secretion
as a result follicle development and ovulation doesn’t take place
the endometrium still sloughs off after 3 weeks when the steroids a withdrawn
