Q

Arrange these events in the correct order (F is first)
A. The left ventricle contracts and blood flows along the aorta to the body
B. The blood flows through the tricuspid valve into the right ventricle
C. Oxygenated blood flows along the pulmonary veins into the left atrium
D. The blood passes through the bicuspid valve
E. The left atrium contracts
F. Deoxygenated blood flows from the inferior and superior vena cave into the right atrium
G. The deoxygenated blood picks up oxygen
H. The right atrium contracts

Q

What is stress overload?

A

caused when pressures at work or home become so intense, or last so long, that you begin to feel overwhelmed and out if control. This happens when the hypothalamus continually releases adrenaline and cortisol into the bloodstream, which causes the body to react by increasing blood pressure and heart rate, opening blood vessels wider to allow more blood to be pumped to major organs, and large muscle groups, and glucose to be released by the liver to increase energy and stamina due to ongoing stress in one’s life.

17
Q

Arteries

A

blood vessels that carry blood away from heart

18
Q

Capillaries

A

blood vessels in which substances are exchanged between the blood and body cells

19
Q

Veins

A

blood vessels that carry blood back to heart

20
Q

Changes to body due to stress (3)

A
  • Increased heart rate
  • Increased breathing rate
  • Sweating
  • pupils dilate
  • blood vessels open wider to increase blood flow to large muscle groups
  • the liver releases some stored glucose to increase energy
21
Q

Explain 5 ways to reduce stress

A

Each person has different ways to regulate stress

  1. Sleep more
  2. Believe in yourself
  3. Breathing exercises
  4. Exercise, even if it is only 15-30 minutes a day
  5. See the positive side of every situation and learn from mistakes
