Chemicals

Dormancy
period of time when an organismβs growth or activity stops. It helps plants survive freezing temps and lack of water
Signs of dormancy
- Leaves begin to change color once temps begin to cool
- Leaves begin to stop making chlorophyll
- As the green pigment chlorophyll begins to break down, pigments of orange and yellow become visible while red pigments are being produced.
- Any remaining sugar and water are transported out of leaves
- Leaves fall to the ground an tree is ready for winter
