the hand Flashcards
grip: describe the main types of grip (power, precision and hook) and the role of the muscles and nerves involved in executing them
3 types of grip
power, precision, hook
describe power grip
fingers flexed around an object, with counter pressure from thumb (e.g. grasping rod)
3 muscle groups activated in power grip
long flexors of fingers and thumb, intrinsic muscles of palm, extensors of wrist joint (give more power to long flexors)
describe precision grip
object gripped between tips of fingers and thumb (e.g. unbuttoning shirt)
muscle groups activated in precision grip
intrinsic muscles of hand carry out fine movement, with wrist and fingers held rigidly by long flexors and extensors
describe hook grip
consumes little energy e.g. carrying shopping bag
muscle group activated in hook grip
long flexors of digits
