The Eye Flashcards
Sclera
Tough outer coat for protection
Cornea
Bends light inward, transparent layer at front of eye
Choroid
Prevents internal reflection (black layer)
Ciliary body
Ciliary muscle (body) changes shape of the lens = “accommodation”
Iris
(The coloured part) Controls the amount of light getting in the eye
Aqueous humour
Helps maintain the shape of the eye
Vitreous humour
Helps maintain shape of the eye
Retina
Contains light sensitive cells (receptors) - the Rods and Cones
Rods
Light sensitive receptors which detect BLACK AND WHITE
Cones
Light sensitive receptors which detect COLOUR
*C for Cones and Colour
Optic Nerve
Contain sensory neutrons that Carries Message to the brain
Blind spot
Found where the optic nerve leaves the eye. It is part of the retina that does not contain light receptors
Fovea
(Yellow spot) the most sensitive part of the retina (most receptors)
Pupil
A hole in the iris through which light passes
Lens(es)
Focus light on the retina
