The Characteristics Of Life Flashcards
Sensitivity (response)
How living things REACT TO CHANGES in their environment
Nutrition
The way organisms OBTAIN AND USE FOOD
Organisation
The ordered way living things are ARRANGED
Reproduction
Is the making of new individuals of the same kind
Excretion
The removal of waste PRODUCED BY METABOLISM
Unicellular definition and examples
Made up of only one cell eg. Amoeba, Bacteria and Yeast
Multicellular
Made up of many cells eg. Human, Daffodils and Slugs
Levels of organisation in multicelled organisms
Cell —> Tissue —> Organ —> System —> Organism
Two types of reproduction
- Asexual Reproduction
2. Sexual Reproduction
Asexual production…
Involves only one parent. It does NOT involve gametes (sex cells). It happens in bacteria and Protista (eg. Aboeba) and some fungi (eg. Yeast.
Sexual reproduction…
Involves two parents that produce gametes (sex cells) which unite during fertilisation. It occurs in animals and plants and some fungi (eg. Rhizopost)
Organs of excretion (produced by metabolism)
Kidneys, skin, lungs
Organ, Waste Excreted, Produced During:
Kidney
Urea, Water, Salt
Deamination (protein is broken down in the liver)
Organ, Waste Excreted, Produced During:
Skin
Urea, water, salt
Organ, Waste Excreted, Produced During:
Lungs
Carbon Dioxide, water
Respiration (Glucose is broken down in the cell)
