The Endocrine System Flashcards
Exocrine
Localised secretions exit locally
Endocrine
Hormones that enter circulation
Negative Feedback
Feedback causes a reduction
Positive Feedback
Feedkback causes an increase
Anterior Pituitary
-Follicle Stimulating hormone (FSH)
-Adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH)
-Somatotrophic (Growth)
-Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH)
-Luteinising hormone (LH)
-Intersitial cell stimulating hormone (ICSH)
-Prolactin
Posterior Pituitary
-Oxytocin
-Antidiuretic hormone (ADH)
Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH)
Promotes spern maturation in males
Adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH)
Regulates the production of glucorticoids, cortisol and corticosterone
Somatotrophin (Growth)
Critical role in epiphyseal growth and protien production
Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH)
Stimulates the thyroid gland to secrete T4 (thyroxine) and T3
Luteinsising hormone
Stimulates ovulation and the formation of the corpus luteum
Interstitial cell stimulating hormone (ICSH)
Stimulates interstitial cells or cells of Leydig in the testis to secrete testosterone
Prolactin
Stimulates development of the mammary glands and the secretion of milk during the latter half of pregnancy.
Oxytocin
Stimulates uterine contractions during labour
Antidiuretic hormone (ADH)
This hormone regulates the bodys water balance
