Breaking down food into small chemical units, this happens in the stomach and intestines

Where the chemical units are passedinto the blood and are carried to the liver

Where chemical units are converted to energy
Excretion definition
Removal of any remaining indigestible material
Monogastric definition
Digestive tract is relativley short as meat is easy to digest

Inside of the cheek

Hard palate dorsally, tongue ventrally, teeth laterally
What is the function of oral cavity?
- Prehension - pick up food with lips/tongue
- Break up food- via mastication
- Lubrication

Forms the roof of the mouth
What muscles close the jaw?
Masseter
Temporalis
Pterygoids
Which muscles open the jaw?
Digastricus
