What determines the number of electors per state?
They are on the number of representatives and senators per state.
In most states winner takes all except for…
Nebraska and Maine
Allocate electoral votes to the winner in each congressional district and give two more to the winner of the state as a whole.
What is single member district?
An electoral district in which voters choose one representative or official.
How do elections in a parliamentary system work differently than our system?
Party in power can call elections at time of choosing.
What are fixed terms?
Length in office is specified.
What are staggered terms?
Changes in office at different times.
Example- Only 1/3 of senators are up for election at the same time.
What does the 22nd amendment do?
Limits the president to two terms.
What is a Lame Duck?
Someone who cannot or will not run again.
Seen as less influential because they cannot run again for office, don’t have power.
What is a faithless elector?
An elector of the electoral college who does not choose the candidate that has won in the state.
What are electors?
Members of the electoral college that represent the states vote for a specific candidate.
Who chooses the president if tie occurs?
The house
Who chooses vice-president if tie occurs?
Senate
