A

Children refused to stand up for pledge of allegiance and were expelled. Court ruled that people shouldn’t be required to stand up for pledge because violates freedom of speech

A

A man argued that religion required him to marry multiple women. Court ruled that you can believe anything you want but Gov has right to still restrict the actions of someone else.

What was the case of Everson v. Board of Education?

A

Funds for transportation were given to schools and 90% of those funds were directed towards the transportation towards religious schools. Court ruled that it was not a violation because it wasn’t going directly to the school, it was solely for transportation.

What was the case of Lemon v. Kurtz man?

A

Two states provided funds for schools which was supposed to be secular, and taxpayers didn’t want to pay for religious schools. Court ruled that it was unconstitutional and people shouldn’t have to pay for that because it was essentially entanglement.

A

There was a nativity scene in a store and the ACLU accused the public displays of endorsing religion. Court ruled that it did not endorse Christianity and that not all religious holidays violated the clause.

A

Students could be dismissed from class to pray or do anything religious. Court ruled that this was okay as long as it wasn’t on school property.

A

Amish families took children out of school to learn what their religion/culture taught and because children are supposed to be in school, people thought it wasn’t allowed. Court ruled that it did violate the free exercise clause because the Amish should be able to have religious freedom.
