When Hitler first began increasing Germany’s armed forces, he did it in secret. Why?
Because the Treaty of Versailles limited the German armed forces to 100,000 soldiers, 6 battleships and no military aircraft.

It was held to decide what to do about Germany and the Treaty of Versailles.
What was the view most people held about the Treaty of Versailles by the year 1932?
Most people agreed that the terms of the Treaty of Versailles were far too harsh on Germany and that Germany should be treated more equally.
What was the BIG question at the Disarmament Conference regarding the armament of the powers involved?
The big questions was whether Germany should be allowed to rearm to the level of all the other powers, or whether all the other powers should have to disarm to the level that Germany were forced to.
Did the other powers decide to disarm to Germany’s level?
The powers refused to disarm to the level of Germany. This infuriated Hitler.

Hitler returned in May 1933. He promised not to rearm if in 5 years’ time, all the other powers at the conference had destroyed their arms.

October 1933. He then withdrew Germany from the League of Nations in the same month.
